Old and New Outlook running side by side - Are there any problems?

On my Windows 11 workstation I have two copies of Outlook running simultaneously, side by side. On has the "New Outlook" slider on, and the other the slider is off. In many ways this works fine. I can delete a message in one window, and in a few seconds it deletes in the other. The question is: Are there any problems that doing this will cause?

Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today.

First, just to clarify. the "new Outlook" is the intended replacement of the Windows 10 / 11 Mail, People, Calendar apps. It is essentially "Outlook in the web" wrapped in an app framework with the added functionality of being able to add external IMAP accounts. It is completely separate and distinct from the classic Outlook program (part of Office)

As long as the account is configured as either an IMAP ro Exchange account in both "new Outlook" and classic Outlook, both will see the same data.

Is there anyway to prevent both windows from happening? I prefer to use "new" outlook but I don't like having two outlook windows open on my taskbar. When I toggle to new outlook, it opens outlook in a separate window and still leaves classic outlook open in it's own window, instead of replacing it.

the new version has calendar items and contacts that are missing from the old version . How can I update the old version.
