Problem. I think I stumbled across a variation of this issue. After noticing that my Microsoft 365 subscription offered a personalized email with a godaddy domain, I decided to try it. After creating the personalized email (eg. me@mydomain.com) I tried to set it up on Outlook (desktop) but was met initially with a failure to sync, subsequently by a complete failure of Outlook to launch and a cascade of error messages beginning with "Outlook cannot log on. Verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. The Microsoft Exchange service in your profile is missing required information. Modify your profile to ensure that you are using the correct Microsoft Exchange information service." The personalized email worked fine with Outlook.com and Outlook for Android.
Troubleshooting. After trawling online and these fora, I tried the following:
- Create new profile - unsuccessful
- Repair profiles and data files - unsuccessful
- Deleting profiles and creating a new one- unsuccessful
- Running the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA) - unsuccessful
- Reinstalling Office (via the M365 interface) - unsuccessful
- (On advice of a Microsoft support agent) update (ie. reinstall) Windows 10 - unsuccessful, and now have the joy of occasionally stumbling across new and unrelated glitches!
Solution. Eventually, the following has (so far) worked for me:
- Delete my profile
- Start Outlook (desktop) and create a new profile
- Enter my personalized email address but check the box to manually set it up
- Select Outlook.com
5 Set incoming server to IMAP / imap-mail.outlook.com / port: 993 / encryption: SSL/TLS (from dropdown) - Set outgoing server to SMTP / smtp-mail.outlook.com / port: 587 / encryption: Auto (from dropdown)
- Leave the SPA box unchecked
So far, so good... I'll update if things change.
