Need Help Configuring SMTP Outgoing Mail Server for Third-Party Email in Outlook

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to configure my SMTP outgoing mail server in Outlook for a third-party email account, and I'm running into some issues. I'm hoping someone here can help me troubleshoot or provide guidance on the correct settings.

My setup:

SMTP Server: smtp.office365.com

Port: 587

Encryption: STARTTLS

Use Authentication as below:

Username: {******@outlook.com}

Password: {App Password from outlook}

Steps I've taken so far, just generate using App Password.

After configuring the above settings, I'm still unable to send emails from this account in Outlook.

Are there any additional configurations needed to integrate a third-party SMTP server in Outlook?

Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi De Paul,

    I've tried one more time with this third party equipment which support email notification using Outlook account. All configuration have I done, but seems the result it having error message "SMTP server connection timeout"

    Meanwhile if I try my account on email third party such as Thunderbird, it successfully connected and smooth for sending and receiving email.

    Is there any advice should i do?

    Thank you.

    Dear Widodi,

    Good day! Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community. We will be happy to help you.

    Based on your description, I understand that you've got most of the settings correct, but there might be a few additional steps or configurations needed. Here are some troubleshooting steps and additional configurations you can try:

    1. Ensure that two-step verification is enabled for your Outlook account. This is necessary to generate an app-specific password. You can enable it by going to the Microsoft Security Page and following the instructions to turn on two-step verification.
    2. After enabling two-step verification, generate an app-specific password. This password is different from your regular account password and is used specifically for apps like Outlook. You can generate it from the same Microsoft Security Page under the "App passwords" section.
    3. Make sure you are using the correct SMTP server settings:
      • SMTP Server: smtp.office365.com
      • Port: 587
      • Encryption: STARTTLS
      • Username: Your full Outlook email address (e.g., ******@outlook.com)
      • Password: The app-specific password you generated.
    4. Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block outgoing emails. Ensure that your firewall or antivirus is not blocking the SMTP port (587).
    5. Ensure that the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" option is checked in Outlook. Use the same settings as your incoming mail server.
    6. Try configuring the same SMTP settings in another email client (like Thunderbird) to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to Outlook.

    If you've tried all these steps and are still facing issues, it might be helpful to check third-party email account support for more insights.

    If none of these steps work, let me know and we can explore other options. Please note that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can find a solution together. Thank you for your help.
