Import a pst file into new outlook

Question

I just came on to the Microsoft hosting for my work emails. I have my emails from the previous hosting as a pst file. The new outlook is not showing me an option to import these into my account

For those who are not finding the toggle, click Help, and then you can see the switch button "Go to classic Outlook".

An unbelievably stupid solution I agree. One upgrades to the New Outlook and finds that one can't import old emails without reverting to Old Outlook. Either their development team is on some substance or we may be heading for a cunningly planned increase in subscription to get our files into the New Outlook. Poor show Microsoft.

Microsoft has now in February 2025 completely removed Outlook Classic and all ways to reinstall it.

I have legal documentation in .pst files which Microsoft makes void.

I have PAID for the usage of Outlook classic thru my Microsoft 365 subscription. I will look for legal actikon as Microsoft now has removed my paid software and all ways to reinstall it.

Naturally Microsoft 365 subreption will NOT be renewed. I will look at alternatives to Microsoft all together.

Sorry but what a stupid solution! I have 10yrs worth of emails, totaling MORE than 50GB. which means i can't actually do what you suggest as the Max file size is 50GB! Which is why i have separate PST files!!!!! seriously, is this the best Microsoft can do??

It sounds like you’re using the new Outlook for Windows, which currently doesn’t support direct import of PST files. However, you can switch to the classic Outlook to import your PST file and then switch back to the new Outlook. Here’s how you can do it:

Switch to Classic Outlook:

• Open Outlook.
• Click on the toggle switch at the top right corner to switch to the classic version.

Import the PST File:

• In the classic Outlook, go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
• Select Import from another program or file and click Next.
• Choose Outlook Data File (.pst) and click Next.
• Browse to the location of your PST file, select it, and choose how you want to handle duplicates.
• Click Next, then Finish.

Switch Back to New Outlook:

• Once the import is complete, you can switch back to the new Outlook using the same toggle switch.

After thorough research and consultations, it has been concluded that the feature you are inquiring about is not yet available in the new Outlook. However, thank you so much for bringing this to our attention, your suggestion is constructive and I believe it could make the use of Outlook even better. We will surely raise your concerns with our Product Development Team and hopefully, this can be included in future updates. Please note new Outlook is still in active development, right now fourteen features are in development and seven more have started to be rolled out.
