Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
Dear Kathy Cutlip
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
I understand that you are having trouble on logging into Hotmail redirects to Outlook.
First and foremost, I sincerely apologize for the difficulty you are experiencing. We take your security and privacy very seriously, and what you're experiencing is something we don't want to see happen.
Hotmail accounts have actually been integrated into Outlook.com by Microsoft, so accessing a Hotmail mailbox will automatically redirect to the Outlook interface. Despite this, you can still log in using your Hotmail email address and password.
Here are the steps to access your Hotmail account:
- Visit the login page: Go to https://outlook.live.com.
- Enter your Hotmail address: Enter your Hotmail email address (e.g., yourname @ hotmail.com) in the login box.
- Enter your password: Enter the password associated with your Hotmail account.
- Log in: Click the "Sign In" button.
If you wish to use the old interface of Hotmail, you may not be able to do so, as Microsoft no longer supports the standalone interface for Hotmail. All Hotmail messages will be displayed in the Outlook interface, but you can still access and manage all your messages.
I see that you say the Hotmail account is old, are you logging into your Outlook.com inbox at least once a year (Hotmail is now equivalent to Outlook). Otherwise, we will close your Outlook.com Inbox (naturally, emails from this section will not be received in your Inbox).
Closing your inbox does not mean that the account is closed, so you will not be able to send and receive emails normally until the next time you log in.

I hope my explanation can help you.
Thank you for your time and understanding.
