Setting up Outlook 2024 mail to yahoo.com

I have just installed Office 2024. I am attempting to set up IMAP to yahoo.com. Windows 11 was set up with a Microsoft account. I have added the Yahoo account to the accounts in the OS. The issue is Yahoo purchased frontier.com several years ago and until recently I have been able to download my email. That stopped in March 2024. I upgraded my office software rather than fooling around with my quite old office package.

I have attempted to add my frontier.com account to Outlook 2024, but I get the message that the incoming server can not be found. I set up the server manually with imap.mail.yahoo.com for the incoming server and port 993, SSL. The outgoing server is smtp.mail.yahoo.com with the port of 587 and SSL. There is no email account listed in the account list, and after multiple attempts, I am out of ideas.

After adding the account to the OS settings through the control panel - accounts mail Mail software that was installed with Windows 11. It sees the server and will download the incoming mail.

Why won't Outlook accept the settings? Does anyone know is Yahoo has made a change and is not disclosing it? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Just use the big YAHOO! sign in option instead of trying the IMAP option.

And use your actual password. There is no need to use the "app password" if you are using a very new email client. Only older email client apps that don't use OAUTH2 will need to use the app password.

Apologies ... but it kept telling me I had an invalid source picture ... so here's most of my post

I'm having the same problem getting my yahoo mail account to be recognized by Outlook 2024. I just did a clean install of Windows 11 from 10 and just bought and installed an Outlook 2024 license for $249. When I hover the mouse over the Outlook icon in the Windows tray it shows "Outlook (classic). I was successfully using Outlook 2016 for downloading my emails from Yahoo email. I was on the phone with Yahoo yesterday and I'm using the correct credentials to add Yahoo to my Outlook. See screenshot. In Outlook I select File>Account Settings>Account Settings and on the Email Tab I select New that brings up a dialog box where I select "Let me set up manually". I then select POP and enter my password in the next dialog box. Here it fails and asks me to re-enter my password and I do. Finally it brings up the "something went wrong" dialog box which allows me to change account settings (see pic). I then put my password in again and says "adding my email" and then fails asking me to reenter my password. I changed my password to something very simple to make sure I was adding it correctly. I also put in a bogus password and it definitely "failed" quicker than using the correct password yesterday.

    Please help. thanks!

Well it looks like I can't add a picture (invalid Source detected" from a Snip.png file.)

Yahoo account settings pop.mail.yahoo.com 995 SSL (no authentication)/ smtp.mail.yahoo.com 465 SSL (authentication required)

    Dear VerlinCross

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you have encountered problems when configuring your Yahoo mailbox. Let me help you.

First of all, it is not clear which specific software you are referring to when you mention “Outlook 2024”, New Outlook and Classic Outlook are completely different software. Can you provide screenshots of the relevant pages, such as errors or screenshots of key pages such as the configuration screen when making settings, so that we can more intuitively understand the specific situation and more accurately help you troubleshoot.

Secondly, you mentioned that when you configure the email account in the control panel, you can see the server and download incoming emails. I want to confirm whether you have successfully configured it in the location shown in the figure below?

    Image

This actually corresponds to the configuration area of the Classic Outlook. If the configuration is successful here, theoretically, the relevant account should be able to send and receive emails normally in the classic version of Outlook. In order to further clarify the situation, please also provide a screenshot of this successful configuration page, and we can check whether there are some detailed differences based on the screenshot content.

We look forward to hearing from you. With your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your cooperation.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
