Access SQL Server 2016 from Nano Server?

I wish to confirm the following:

1) Nano Server does not support ODBC (64-bit)?

2) Does Microsoft have any plans to add ODBC (64-bit) support to Nano Server?

3) What tools do I use in order to write a 64-bit Windows 'C' application (via Visual Studio 2015) to run on Nano Server and connect and query SQL Server 2016 (which is running on another VM not inside Nano Server)? I do not wish to use Hyper-V on Nano or docker on Nano, just run as a 64-bit windows service on Nano Server.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

I have not found any official document which could indicate that ODBC is supported on Nano server, and as .msi is not supported on Nano server, we are not able to install the ODBC driver.

If you’d like to get official statement from Microsoft, I suggest you contact Microsoft Customer Support and Services.
