Enterprise Project Type Template cannot be deleted because it is assicated with a project. How do I fix this so I can delete the Template

The operation could not be completed.

• Enterprise Project Type Software Development Waterfall Template cannot be deleted since there are one or more projects associated with this type. Change them to a different type and try again.

How do I fix this so I can delete the Template?
How do I "Change them? to a different type?" Do I change the projects that are using that template to another template but would that cause the projects to loose tasks, etc. Or is that part of the configuration items in that template that I want to delete?
