Office Icons are all missing/replaced by generic white icons

For some reason all my office products (word, excel, outlook, access etc.) icons in the start menu and desktop task bar have all been replaced by the generic white icons.

I am unable to uninstall or repair this. I believe (from what I've read on the internet) that it is connected to the "C:\windows\installer" folder and the Office installer files.

Can this problem be solved without having to re-install windows ( as that is the only way I think its possible to be albe to reset the office suite).

Cheers,

Jurgens

I had the same issue as everyone here and I think I've FINALLY figured out a solution!

    Go to c:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office 14

Right click on each program icon individually and unpin from BOTH your Taskbar and/or Start Menu. (e.g. EXCEL.EXE, MSACCESS.EXE, MSPUB.EXE, OUTLOOK.EXE, POWERPNT.EXE, WINWORD.EXE, etc.)

Then right click and select  "Pin to Start Menu" (not to Taskbar).

Do this for each program you want to eventually make it onto your Taskbar.

Now go to Start and then for each program (that should now show in start menu with the actual Microsoft Office icon), right click and select "Pin to Taskbar".

You can then Remove each one from the Start Menu if you wish by right clicking again and selecting "Remove from this List".

Your icons should now be back to their original format.

I've rebooted my system several times so far and the icons have remained.

Hopefully this will work for everyone else as well!

    Good Luck!!!

Try rebuilding the icon cache - http://www.winvistaclub.com/t71.html explains for Vista/Windows 7. For earlier OSs check out Google.

I'm afraid that I have tried this, but it did not work.

An even bigger problem associated with this is that I am unable to either Change or Repair Office 2010 or uninstall it all together for a re-install. It is just impossible to do so using add/remove from windows or even an external program like Revo Uninstaller.

I am not even sure why Windows deleted the contents of this "C:\windows\installer" folder ( I presume that this is where the problem lies from google searches).

Again, the only reall solution to this problem that I've found is to reinstall the OS in order to reinstall office 2010.

Unless there is another solution, like a patch or something, I believe this is a serious design oversight on both the Office 2010 suite and Windows 7, and up untill now I had only positive experiences.

Same as Jurgens I tried this and it did not work. I too am unable to change or repair Office 2010.

I would prefer Microsoft make a patch available - ASAP!

I have the same problem as this.

I've tried to rebuild the IconCache.db, but it doesn't exist on my PC

I've tried to reinstall office, but the setup file keeps on crashing. The repair option does not exist on Programe Manager, I've tried downloading Office agin and reinstalling it but that's the same

The funcionality of the programme appears to be fine, but the icons in the shell, on the desktop and on the taskbar are just the generic windows icons and you can't change them from properties.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium and Office 2010 Version 14.0.4760.1000.

The icons are fine on "Dell Dock"

    Any ideas?
