Position Keyboard on Side of Screen

I need the Android keyboard to appear on the right (or left) side of the screen (instead of the bottom) when in landscape mode. I would not expect this to be an uncommon scenario, so I am wondering if there is any built-in way to do this (or if there isn't, is there any way at all?). Any ideas? Thanks.

I am afraid that there is no built-in way to do this. Maybe you can create an alternate layout that display Landscape orientation, and customize keyboard in layout. As the docs show, you can use keyboard instead of listview.

I'm not sure what you mean by

customize keyboard in layout

and

use keyboard instead of listview

. The link you give is for Fragments. Is there some way to use Fragments to do what I want (I am new to Fragments, so I wouldn't really know). I have an alternate layout for landscape, but that doesn't change the fact that the keyboard appears below the content rather than beside it.

I'm sorry I didn't explain clearly. I mean that the docs show a listview and a textview, you can try to replace the listview with a keyboard. The pop form of Android keyboard can't be changed, so you can customize a view looks like a keyboard.

If I understand what you are saying, you are suggesting that I use a grid of customized buttons that look like a keyboard instead of using the actual keyboard? This idea did occur to me, but having 26 buttons, plus special characters like period, comma, equals, etc., not to mention extra code for special keys like shift and backspace, seems very tedious, not to mention that (no matter how hard I try) it would probably look different than the built-in keyboard. Because of these reasons, using a grid of buttons would not be appropriate.

Yes, it will take a lot of effort to complete. The keyboard always pops from bottom, this is a limit of Android.
