copy manufacturer files from folder path keeps erasing when trying to specify driver folder on manual printer driver install

I am running into a weird issue on a surface pro x. The client has recently purchased this machine and ran the windows updates. The problem is when we go to manually install a printer by specify the ip address port and then manually specifying the folder location for the driver file where it normally says "Copy Manufacturer's files from:" the path is erased as soon as I click OK and I need to specify the path again only to click OK and have the issue happen once again. I am not able to get past this part in the install wizard and thus unable to complete a simple printer driver install. Please advise.

- Whether the problematic client has joined into a domain?
- Can we log in to this client with a domain administrator account, and then use the printer addition wizard to add a printer? May I know if the printer can be added in this scenario?
