Our main site is in Sacramento and we have two other distribution points IT management wants to decommission. Can we just shut them down and everything will fall back to the Sacramento main site?

It will depend on your boundary configuration.

    Hi @Ray Allen ,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

There is a relatively safe method, we could reassign a distribution point to the primary site.
This action updates the site system allocation while keeping all content on the server.
For more details, please refer to the Reassign a distribution point part of this article:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/servers/deploy/configure/install-and-configure-distribution-points#bkmk_reassign

Hope the above information can help you.
