Can Word automatically format text that is a link, as a hyperlink?

I have a text file of bookmarks, that are http and https links. If I open this up in Word, can I get Word to automatically format each of these links as hyperlinks? I know how to get Word to format any selected text as a link, but I'm talking about Word doing this for all http and https URLs, on its own.

    Yes, you can do that.

The first step is to add the AutoFormat Now command to your Quick Access Toolbar. In the Customize Quick Access Toolbar dialog, you'll find this after setting the "Choose commands from" dropdown to "Commands Not in the Ribbon".

Next, go to File > Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options and click the AutoFormat tab of the dialog (NOTthe AutoFormat As You Type tab). Uncheck all the boxes except the one for "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks".

Open your document full of links, and click the AutoFormat Now button on the toolbar. Done!

If however you want to add hyperlinks to display text that isn't the URL then you need a macro. I am just putting the finishing touches to an add-in that will replace text strings with hyperlinks from a data file in Excel format. It is currently separate, but I will probably include the functionality in myMail Merge Hyperlink add-in. If you want to try this function contact me via my web site.
