sync-generic-failure AAD Delta Sync

We are receiving a sync error in Azure Connect .  The error we are receiving is sync-generic-failure in relation to groups that are created on the Office365 side of things.  These groups would get created if a user is in their Mail or OneDrive in Office365 and use the Create option under Groups on the left side pane.

This would be a great way for users to create groups to share and communicate with each other without us needing to manage in AD (on-prem or in cloud).  The creation and sharing work fine but once the AAD sync runs it throws the sync-generic-failure error.  I was unable to find any information out there about this error in general let alone specific to our circumstances

Sorry, I have been away for a little.  As I went back through the Azure Connect configuration I saw that Group writeback was enabled but I rad the info bubble related and it stated that on-prem Exchange was needed for the Group writeback to work.

We do not have our on-prem Exchange tied to Office 365 since we are moving email services to the cloud only.  I disabled Group writeback and so, in turn, I am not seeing the sync-generic-failure messages any longer.

I am fine with not implementing the Group writeback at this point.  Thanks for your time!

Hi dbrackbill,

For "I can access the group from the Office 365 Admin portal", do you get any error message? Is its status set to Synced with on-premises directory? Please provide us a screenshot of the status and the error message.

Meanwhile, some more details are appreciated.

1.Which Office 365 subscription are you using?

2.Do you have on-premises Exchange deployed?

3.The detailed version of your Azure AD connector client and if you have enable Group writeback.

4.Could you reinstall your Azure AD connector to see if the issue persists?

Thanks,

Alex

Most likely you are getting a duplicate attribute or something similar. Check the Event logs for more details, and check the dirsync notification emails that should be sent to the Technical contact for your O365 tenant.
