Can't connect Bluetooth headset to Android Teams

This seems to be an ongoing issue. I have a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Until recently I had no problems connecting my Bluetooth headphones. Now I cannot. My AKG, NuraTrue, Sony wh1000mx5. All fail. I cannot find any setting in my phone app that allows me to choose my headset like the pc application does.

This appears to be an issue with MS Teams, not user error, device connectivity, etc.

I have tried the following advice previously posted without success.

  • Clearing the cache of your Android phone's Teams app by signing out and closing the Teams App. Then go to Phone Settings > Apps & Notifications > Teams > Storage & Cache > Clear Storage and Clear Cache and confirm your action. After that, please re-open the Teams App and sign in again to see if it makes a difference.
  • Unpair the device from Bluetooth devices (Forget devices), then reconnect.
  • Updating to the latest version of Teams for Android phones should resolve the issue, and Bluetooth should work properly with both devices

Please provide advice on how I can fix this issue. It is critical for my work.

TIA

    Hi NatashaGoode,

You may try the other options below. Hope that one of the solutions will solve the issue.

    1. Check also the apps permission on your phone like camera, microphone and also nearby devices.

Go to Settings -> Apps -> Teams -> Permissions -> Allow access to "Nearby devices"

    1. Try to connect with your bluetooth device first before you open the Teams.

Please let me know if this doesn't work or if you need further assistance.

    Thank you.

    Hello NatashaGoode ,

My name is Joanna, I am an Independent Advisor and as well as a long-time Microsoft user. I’ll be happy to help you out today.

I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue, and I will try my best to assist you with this so that you find a satisfactory solution.

Have you try to connect the bluetooth headset to different devices or check the battery?

Another option is to Clear Bluetooth cache and data. Try clearing your Bluetooth settings entirely.

    1. Open the apps list in your phone’s settings app and tap on “Bluetooth”.

If Bluetooth doesn’t appear in the list, you may need to enable “Show system apps”.

    1. Tap on the triple-dot icon in the top-right corner then select “Show system apps”.
    2. Once you’ve found and tapped on Bluetooth, tap on “Storage” to manage the saved Bluetooth data.
    3. At the bottom of the screen are two options: “Clear cache” and “Clear data”. You should try clearing the cache first then the data if that doesn’t solve the issue.

Note: This step may require you to pair all of your Bluetooth devices with your phone again.

    Jo Joanna

Already tried those options without success. My Bluetooth headsets are operational and work on other devices without issues. Given that the connectivity has suddenly ceased, I thought it was a Teams update issue. The weird thing is that even when my phone is connected in my car, I can only use the phone speakers, yet the Teams notifications sound through my vehicle sound system.

Why can't I choose the device I use in the Teams phone application like I can on the PC?

    Hi again

Thank you, solution #2 solved my issue. For some reason when my Teams phone app updated it disabled "nearby devices" access. This has been doing my head in for a couple of weeks!

Might be worth disseminating that as a FAQ for a quick Google search. There are so many people finding the same issue. I'm sure it's just one of those quirks when an app updates, but it's very helpful to know.

    Have a great day :)

Hi there, I am having the same issue and I have already done solution 2 on my own when seeing ALL Permissions. It partially works. It won't work while I am inside of a meeting, but it will work if I am recording a message to send.
