I have actually discovered that it is possible, and you don't need to subscribe to Office 365!

You need to generate the pdf by going to 'Save As' and choosing 'pdf' from the 'file formats' menu at the bottom.

Below 'file format' you then need to select 'Best for electronic distribution and accessibility' and that will retain all the links.

If only Microsoft would give some instructions when they issue upgrades and change things! Some hope, eh!

This uses the MS online file oconversion service, which lowers images quality in documents, especially technical images with fine details and small fonts.

I hope MS allows the users to choose the images quality (compression level) when using this feature.

Evidently, we were told differently, when this feature was incorporated a few months ago, and at the time it was explained for this feature to work you were required to be an Office 365 subscriber. In fact, the feature would not even exist in a Permanent licensed version. When this feature come online,  I clicked on new features; it explained that it was for Office365 subscribers only.   I hate it when Microsoft makes fiber out of me.

Evidently, Microsoft got an earful and let everyone have the feature. Or at the time it was just coming online and limited to subscribers as a test only.

Sorry, I assumed, that not everyone had this feature now.
