It's a while since I used MODI, but I am pretty certain that it was never compatible with PDF format.

PDF is essentially a graphics format and conversion back to text (let alone conversion with font information) requires OCR software. The latest versions of Word will open PDF files, but that doesn't mean that the document will contain the original font information or even be editable. Much depends on how the PDF was created.

You will need more sophisticated OCR software to make a better stab at the conversion, with ABBYY FineReader being my personal preference, but it is not a miracle worker and cannot restore what was never there in the first place.

Thanks for your input. I will give ABBYY FineReader a try and lets see.
