How to fix no sound on browser issue.

I have been trying to fix this problem for months and can't figure it out. I have no audio from my speakers when I am trying to play sound on any browser. I have sound using Spotify or Teams, but not on the browser (Edge or Chrome). The first time this happened, I was able to roll back the driver and that fixed the problem. I have made sure the tabs aren't muted, the browser settings are all as they should be and they have permission to use audio, I have rolled back and updated the driver, I have uninstalled/reinstalled the device and drivers. I purchased new speakers and they are doing the same thing. Has anyone found another fix?

    Hi Russell,

I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.

Can you check the Volume mixer?

Open and play a sound in the browser > open Settings > System > Sound > click Volume mixer > under Apps, make sure that Chrome or Edge is not muted.

Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks.

Paul, if you read his question, he clearly stated that he had alreayd checked to see that they are not muted along with several other steps. I have also done the same and am still having this problem. Can someone actually read the question and then if you have any suggestions, they would be most appreciated.

After many useless videos and information on the internet, it finally worked.

This has been an ongoing issue for me for over a year now. Most of the time one of the browsers would work so I never really tried finding a fix for it and would just switch between Chrome and Edge (Or restart my computer and it would usually fix it). However, both browsers started not playing any audio at all so I had to find a fix that actually worked. (Side note: My 'Films and TV' app wasn't playing any audio either during some occasions)

In my case, there's audio in other apps like Spotify, but not on Chrome or Edge. I tried everything and most of the information I found was useless. After seeing this comment I started messing around with the settings that he mentioned.

What I did was go to System -> Sound -> Volume Mixer -> choose your playback device then hit "Reset" at the bottom. If you have multiple playback devices and it doesn't work on the one you reset, try resetting the other ones as well.

In the current (today's date: 12/22/2023) version of Windows 11, try going to:

System > Sound >All sound devices > Properties

Go to System > Sound and scroll down to Advanced. Under Advanced, click All sound devices.

Under All sound devices, click on the output device used, for example, Realtek HD Audio.

Under General you will see Audio. Below it says: Allow apps and Windows to use this device for audio. Click on allow.
