Release 15:22 - fix for word documents not saving properly - not fixed

I had a problem saving and closing already saved documents with word asking me to 'save/save as' as if they were newly created documents.  This seems to happen when documents are open for a while.  The file has become corrupted.

The other issue was when opening a document it would come up with an error that there was not enough space in the start up disk - which is incorrect. Its a new laptop and there is 70% space remaining.

The release 15:22 was meant to fix these problems.  

My questions are - 

1). Does the release fix this bug on documents that were created prior to its installation? I am assuming it was meant to.

Or

2). Has the release simply failed to fix the bug?

3). Should I be doing back ups to an external hard drive if the files are corrupted?

If the release has failed to fix the bug and it is corrupting files this makes office 365 not fit for purpose and dangerous to run - when will the new bug fix be released?  What compensation will MS offer for work documents that becomes lost?  

This bug should be a P1 and a new bug fix released asap.

Hello - is there any update on a fix for this issue?  

Currently I have temp files visible in Finder in All My Files when I have a document open.  These are disappearing when I close the documents,

However - there are 4 temp files that were open weeks ago and they are still sitting there in All My Files.  They were opened on the 13 June and have not been opened since.

This issue seems to behave very erratically - especially when you view other posts on the same thing.  So I am not confident that as I am not getting the error message at this point when I try to save or move text - that I won't in the future.

I am about to start writing up my thesis so I would like reassurance of when a fix will be available for this specific problem.

I have a friend with exactly the same computer as I (mine is a few months old only) and he does not get this problem at all.

Do you know yet what is causing it?  I cannot risk losing a whole dissertation which will have highly significant impact on my life not to mention the £1000s I have spend on the degree that would be lost over this issue.

It is a P1 for me!!!!! And should be for MS too. The instability of the software with this amount of damage that is occurring to people's work does not fit within any tolerance threshold.

I can't speak for Microsoft, but can offer some additional troubleshooting suggestions.

1. On the Tools menu choose AutoCorrect. In the AutoCorrect preferences turn off Spelling and Grammar check options.

Try again - any better?

2. Be sure your document has a short file name and is located in the Documents directory
3. Try booting in Safe Mode (your Mac will take a long time to start up in Safe Mode). Does the problem exist while booted into Safe Mode (assuming you didn't open any other apps before trying)?

Just to update you.

I have to say Microsoft have been a lot more proactive in solving this than Apple but they finally kicked in and did think there maybe something happening on the mac side of things.  

They have done a reinstall of the operating system and I have reinstalled MS Office.  There is one issue that keeps reoccurring and that is when you open a word doc or create and save one, when it opens the temp file starting with the $ shows in Finder - All My Docs.  They said this shouldn't happen but are aware it is happening and not to worry about it.  

One apple genius agent said also that he knew of customers who were being locked out entirely of their documents but found that if you opened a document through the app rather than finder the problem seemed to improve.

I have yet to download all my files back onto the computer and there is a concern that they will bring the problem back in.

How can the MS team support this at the moment?  Apple told me if it doesn't fix the issue and its a compatibility problem then they won't do anything like exchange my 3 month old laptop.

Hi  - many thanks for this.  As it was getting worse I called someone at microsoft and he decided it was an apple issue with the start up menu coding and multiple problems with the temp files.  I have thus gone back to apple with this information and they are currently working on this.  I will keep you updated though and if they come up with a resolution will let you know in case this happens to someone else or for recording.

One thing is however I don't know how to get to the error you mention above - as I would need to see it triggered and this is random.  The main message it is showing now is there is a serious disk error on file - word work file - with a long series of numbers and letters.  

When it next happens I will go in a get log plus the above that you asked for, for your information.
