All Office 365 slow to open

Hello,

I'm pulling out what little hair I have left!! I've followed all the posts & suggested remedies relevant to this issue & have, so far, not found a solution. This is very disappointing. I have followed each & every offered suggestion to remedy this extremely frustrating & time consuming problem with 365. I am computer literate.

PLEASE, can someone at Microsoft sort this out, rather than trotting out the redundant solutions that have proven to be ineffective by everyone posting. Obviously, I can't find a single reply saying "Thank you, this has fixed the problem with Office 365 applications taking an unreasonable length of time to start." Surely someone has realised this is a serious problem?

Thank you in advance of your earliest reply with a working solution or advice on how to claim a refund as the product Microsoft have sold me is clearly not fit for purpose.

Yes I agree, but just for clarification, I was originally running 64 bit Home office 365 on 64 bit Windows 10 and it was running great! Problems started some time after I loaded 32 bit applications such as Visio 2010 and Project that I had individual licences for. I don't know how I ended up with two copies of office on my computer! but it has occurred as a result of having the 32 bit apps loaded. Whichever way you look at it something went very wrong. Overall office performance, mainly start up times became incredibly slow.

When I deleted the 32 bit applications e.g. Visio 2010 and Project and the two copies of office 365 and then re installed the 64 bit office version, everything returned to great performance. I love 64 bit office 365.

I'm just reporting this as a clear warning that I had significant issues running both 64 bit and 32 bit office applications on a 64 bit Windows 10. I don't know if the issue was that I added applications that are today considered business to the home office? However for me, I will never attempt to load a 32 bit applications on a 64bit OS again.

    Hi,

I don't know if this will help you, but I have just solved a simular massive problem I've had with Office 365. The problem materialised when word suddenly started taking many times longer to open than normal, which was driving me crazy.

I resolved the problem when I deleted all 32 bit apps on my system!

I'm running a HP spectre X360 with 64 bit I7 core 8GB Ram and 512GB SSD. This machine is blindingly fast and I'm very happy with it. However my problems started after I installed an old copy of Visio and Project both (32bit) I that had. At the time I did not relate the slowdown to installing the 32 bit apps. I still don't fully understand what happened but months later I deleted office 365 and tried to re install it out of frustration. But it would only let me install a 32 bit version! After a lot of frustration and some IT help it turned out that somehow there were two copies of office 365 installed. Took multiple attempts to uninstall everything and was finally successful, only after uninstalling all apps eg Visio and Project. When I reinstalled the 64 bit office 365, word, excel etc were all blindingly fast again! Problem solved.

The lesson for me is only install 64 bit apps on a 64 bit OS. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for the follow-up. Doug mentioned that programs start in 2 seconds on his installation. How much longer is it on your installation?

Here, Outlook sometimes get stuck on the splash screen so that I have to click the X to close it. The next time it starts fine. Word does not misbehave like that at all, in my experience.

It is slow in starting up.  When the program gets running it is as fast as can be.  I have focused on the computer itself before coming back to Microsoft office.

    Thanks!

Now, I have no idea just what you have tried and it is definitely not a problem here as Word starts in about 2 seconds and here it has to load 3 add-ins.

Have you followed the steps in the KnowledgeBase article "How to troubleshoot problems that occur when you start or use Word" at:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/921541

particularly the section dealing with Add-ins.

As I said, I have no idea what you have tried so don't get upset if that is something that you have tried.
