Excel Filtering Drop Down (bug?)

Question

I'm an avid excel user and have been using it daily for close to 2 decades now. I've run into what I consider a very strange issue that neither myself nor my company IT professionals have been able to solve. 

It has to do with Data/Filter drop downs. 

I have filtering enabled on the top row of my worksheets, when i attempt to use the drop down (normally to deselect all and just choose a few options) the filter drop down automatically closes before I can make my selection.

We've done the following troubleshooting and the issue remains.

1. confirmed the problem is across multiple workbooks, including when a new workbook is made.  
2. confirmed the problem is isolated to my machine (other users do not have the same issue using the same workbooks)
3. confirmed the problem is both when using a wireless mouse and the laptop track pad
4. attempted to repair Office 365
5. confirmed all drivers, Office, and windows have all recent updates
6. turned off dual monitors to confirm it wasn't an issue there

7. same issue in safe mode
8. same issue when trying to select using a drop down Filter in a pivot table

Any ideas what could be causing this?

For this issue, I'd like to share a summary which will benefit other community members.

Symptoms:

Users can't use Data/Filter or other drop downs in Excel clients.

Workaround:

Turn off Dropbox badge

Assessment:

The issue is related to Dropbox updates,  Dropbox team is working on it. You can subscribe to the following thread to get the latest updates.

Hi Eeshib,

For further investigation, could you share the information below?

1.A screenshot of your Excel product information from File tab>Account.

2.Your operating system. For example, Win 7, Wind 8 or else.

3.Before the issue appears, did you make any changes to your Office or computer settings?

4.Does the issue happen to a new sheet with few columns or rows?

5.You can see the drop down list but it disappears immediately after you see it, is that right?

4. Yes, I created a brand new workbook and the issue is duplicating
5. Yes, I see the drop down list, sometimes can actually deselect all then as soon as I move my mouse the list disappears
