Bought 365 for my new computer.  Transferred word documents from old computer that contains charts and graphs. I can't update the charts since  word cannot open the file since user does not have access privileges.  I am the only user, should be administrator but can't figure out how to get access privileges for my files.  I am not an experienced user.  Don't know if I am officially the administrator.

    1. Could you please right click on Word > Run As Administraor

Now see whether you can access the documents.

    1. Try repairing your Office installation. First try Quick Repair (takes 5 - 10 mins) , if that doesn't help then try Online Repair (Takes more than 30 mins but less than 1 hour in general)

    1. Login to Windows with a new user profile and see if problem is resolved.

    Thanks for responding.

NO. 1  My office doesn't have an option to run as Administrator after right click.

No. 2.  May try Quick Repair later but not familiar with it.

No.  3.  Mentioned I am not experienced so don't know how to create a new user profile.

Thanks anyway.  One of the other responders seems close to finding a solution for me.

Thanks Karl.  I think permissions are OK now but stilI have the same problem.  I am beginning to think the problem involves privileges not permissions.  There is a difference and have seen a couple of articles that indicate privileges have priority over permissions.

http://searchwindowsserver.techtarget.com/feature/Permissions-vs-privileges,  Well above my pay grade.

    Thanks again.
