Is there a clean way to suppress screen refresh?

I have a basic aspx website. If a user doesn't fill in testboxes correctly and clicks on a process button, nothing will happen. (Postback occurs but nothing is
executed.)

However...

In IE11 the screen flashes quite dramatically when refreshing from a postback.

In FireFox, it's not nearly as obvious. It looks better - you can still see a little flicker, but it's so much nicer than IE11.

Is there a cool way to suppress all that screen "flashing" on a postback?

I am not sure but probably you want to use Partial Page Updates with ASP.NET AJAX. The following are my notes written for myself about how to do it; the article has details and explanations.

    • Add a ScriptManager with EnablePartialRendering=true (can be added from the toolbox, in AJAX Extensions)
    • Add an UpdatePanel
    • Add a ContentTemplate within the UpdatePanel
    • Put controls in the ContentTemplate
