how do you put a app on the homescreen?

Now I don't really know if homescreen is the right name for it but my big brother's PC has apps and games on the screen he sees when he logs in, but my PC will only let me pin them to the task bar. I have no idea why it's doing this or how to make my way around the problem. I have been trying and trying to find a salution since last Sunday.

    Hi Hugo

    Click your Start Button at the bottom left of your screen

    On the resulting Start Menu, in the Alphabetical list of installed Apps, find an App

    Then simply click and drag that onto your Desktop to create a Desktop Shortcut

    Also, if you want to make a tile on your Start Menu for that App, right click it in the alphabetical list and choose 'Pin to Start' . . .
