SmartArt text can't be formatted to fit the textboxes.

If I increase the font on text in SmartArt it does not stay within the textbox and goes outside the box. I also notice the line breaks don't occur anywhere near the end of the TextBox and it won't let me adjust them. Is there anyway to increase the font size so it fills up the textbox in SmartArt to its confines and fills the entire area of the SmartArt Textbox. There is a ton of white space in the boxes of the graphics I used and the increased font size would make it much easier to see during a presentation. BTW "Do not Autofit" is selected and grayed out. This is for Office 365 business.

Have you tried setting the left / right / top / bottom margins to zero?

    Hi Peter_S44,

In additional to John’s suggestion, you can also try changing "Vertical alignment" to "Middle"/"Middle Centered" to minimize the white space.

If there doesn't help on your case, it would be helpful to post a sample image here for the detailed scenario you meet.

    Regards,

    Ryan

Smart Art Text is normally set to Middle by default and also your screen shot is not Smart Art.

    Hi Peter_S44,

The font size and link breaks should auto-fit the textbox during typing. The "Do not Autofit" is selected and grayed out as well on my side so it shouldn't be the cause.

You can right click the box > Format shape and try to adjust margins as suggested to check the outcome.

If the issue persists, you can share a problematic file via PM for our reference.

    Thanks,

    Jim

I ended up copying all the text recreating the smartart and pasting it back in and it worked. The only odd thing I noticed is that when I moved the textbox inside the smartart the text wouldn't move with it. It was almost like it was in the graphic below it. I'm not sure how that happened but removing the whole thing and redoing it seemed to work. I had to do that in a couple of instances. It was kind of a pain but worked out good in the end. I hope this helps somebody.....

BTW that text formatting area with the bullets etc looked totally fine in case you are wondering.
