Applying Retention Policies to Archive Mailboxes

Hello,

We can use retention tags and policies to delete specific emails older than a specific time range or move them to archive mailbox. The question is that can we do the same to the emails in archive mailboxes already?

Let's say, I have an E1 plan and an archive mailbox of 50GB size limit. It's about to get full and I don't want to switch to a plan which enables unlimited archive. I just want to automatically delete emails in archive mailbox which are older than 1 year or something to free up space in it. I don't want to bother deleting them manually either. Is it possible to apply a retention policy to it or use another automatic method to achieve this?

Thanks,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Like mentioned in this article, the same retention policy is applied to the primary and archive mailbox. However, please be noted that the DPT with the Move to Archive action must have a lower retention age than the DPT with a deletion action.

Let me know if anything is unclear.

Thanks,

Sam
