Wireless Network Will Not Connect Automatically On Boot

I have Windows 7 Professional.  Every time I boot up I have to to click on wireless icon & enter code key to connect to net.  When I go to Network & Sharing Center, active network is showing.  When I go to Manage Wireless Networks, active network not listed.  When I try to manually add it, I fill in all data and click next, I get notice that access is denied. I have admin. rights. Have talked w/HP & router people to no avail.  Just need to find fix that will automatically connect to internet on boot without necessity of entering key code each time I boot up.  Would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

open search, type "services.msc" open services.

Scroll down to "wlan auto config" right click, stop the service.

    Navigate to

"C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Wlansvc\ delete everything in this folder  leaving only a folder called "profiles" delete everything in the "profiles" folder except for a folder called "interfaces" delete everything in the "interfaces" folder)

Restart "wlan auto config" connect to your wireless network, enter

your passkey, (ensure the connect automaticly box is checked)

Restart your computer job done, your computer will now connect to your wireless network automaticly on boot.

Hi all, I followed the above advice and thank God you guys got it just right!!! The tip from Fikin to Smokey was right on!! He said to:

    I saw this very frustrating issue on both my work and home WLAN. A colleague has helped me to identify the issue and the fix we used is posted below;

    1. Go to the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Wlansvc\Profiles (it's hidden folder so you'll have to manually type the path from the windows start bar),
    2. Give the local Administrators group full permissions;

     a) In windows explorer, right click within the folder and select properties

     b) Select the Security tab

     c) Click Edit

     d) Select the Administrators group (or if it's not there already, add it)

     e) Ensure all the permissions are ticked, with the exception of special permissions,

     f) Click OK then OK.

    1. Try adding a wireless profile again by going to Network and Sharing Centre - you should not now get the "Access Denied" message.

    Hope it helps!

    Nikki

This worked Great!!! p.s,  I copied and pasted the folder location instead of typing it out. This fixed it, Thank God. It was just so frustrating. Thanks all, Ben.

Well, shucks!  It worked one time only!  Went back in and followed your instructions on Method 1 again.  Didn't work.

Tried Method 2 but whether logged in as user or admin., my network does not show in Manage Wireless Networks but is showing under "View your active networks".  When I go to Manage Wireless Networks and try to manually create a network profile for my active network by entering all data, popup states "access denied".

    Any suggestions would be helpful!

    Thanks.

    Hi Smokey55,

I would suggest you to enable built in administrator and then try the below methods.

Steps to enable built in administrator:

    1. Open a elevated command prompt.

        a. Click start.

        b. Click All Programs.

        c. Click Accessories.

        d. Right click on Command Prompt.

        e. Click on Run as Administrator.

    1. To Enable the Hidden Built-In Administrator Account -

In the elevated command prompt, type

net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter

    1. Close the elevated command prompt.
    2. Log off, and you will now see the built-in Administrator account log on icon added (enabled) or removed (disabled) from the log on screen.

Method 1: Make sure if the WLAN AutoConfig service is set to automatic.

    1. Click on start button, type services.msc and press Enter.

    2. Scroll down to the WLAN AutoConfig service, right click on it and select Properties

    3. Click on General tab, select Automatic for startup type.

    4. Click on Dependences tab and make sure that all the dependences services are set to Automatic. Then click on OK button.

    Method 2:

    1. Open Manage Wireless Networks by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type wireless, and then click Manage wireless networks.

    2. Click Add, and then click Manually create a network profile.

    3. Type the network information.

    4. If you want Windows to automatically connect when the network is in range, select the Start this connection automatically check box.

    5. Select the Connect even if the network is not broadcasting check box, click Next, and then click Close.

Cannot believe it - Method 1 worked perfectly - a simple matter of setting WLAN AutoConfig service to automatic.  Have been researching this on net for weeks to no avail.  Have 3 friends with same problem and will call and walk them thru process.

    My eternal gratitute Umesh P.
