Users HATE the New Outlook! Bring the old Mail app back!

The New Outlook sucks in many ways. Users hate it and we want the old Mail & Calander app back.

For evidence, just search "new outlook sucks" in any search engine, search "new outlook" in the Feedback Hub, or go in the Microsoft Store and look at the reviews for Mail & Calendar (users love it) and the new outlook (users hate it).

Here are the major problems with the New Outlook:

  • Design. It doesn't look like a Windows app at all. In fact, it is the Outlook website (outlook.com) disguising itself as an app. It doesn't even try to fit in Windows at all.
  • Resource Usage. This website-like app takes 1 GB of RAM, all used by a cranky rendering engine, WebView2. And in contrast, Mail only takes around 100 MB of RAM.
  • Responsiveness. There's always a half-second wait when I click on something.
  • Notifications. Sometimes the New Outlook pushes a notification to me when there's new mail, but sometimes it doesn't. When it does push a notification, it is always Mail that alerts me first (when Mail was still available).
  • Performance. The New Outlook takes way too long to load. I see the logo for about three seconds as the app loads every time I open the New Outlook. Why should I be seeing this splash screen for more than a second? It should take me right into my inbox when I open it! Also, when I open an email by clicking on a notification, the New Outlook always takes about 5-10 seconds to load, and when the load finishes, the New Outlook displays the email in a new window and the main program, with the email open, in another window, which is just weird.
  • Advertisements. The New Outlook is filled with them, while Mail is clean with none of them.

These are the problems I found when using the New Outlook. If you have more feedback or you share similar experiences, feel free to comment.

Microsoft, I hope you will listen to the feedback people are giving you. Bring Mail back, as users love it for its speed, design, and features. The Mail app works, but the New Outlook may not. Don't remove something that works and replace it with something that doesn't work. Please leave what people like alone, thank you.

Absolutely awful. Millions of dollars (or more), teams of computer engineers and this is what they come up with. Must be the same management team that "fixed" excel with "save copy", provided Vista and pulled Windows NT with Windows 9 etc. Fighting to move contacts, no address book and multiple annoying clicks for simple tasks like block sender. Old outlook still works on my apple devices (testimony to MS decline). Microsoft is training for government work. Can't wait until they update word and powerpoint. We'll be using papyrus, crayons and chalk in no time. Actually we'll be using apple.

You aren't submitting feedback to the Outlook Team when you post here. This article tells you how to submit feedback. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/contact-support-and-provide-feedback-in-new-outlook-for-windows-4a4bcc80-c71e-4e44-97c1-d0e62452ef4a

I hate Outlook. Gmail is so much easier to use. Outlook has lots of buttons and poor screen layout. Half the time basic buttons like compose and attach are hidden. To IT managers: During the last two days our IT spent two hours helping me get buttons to show. Running new fast Lenovo, latest everything. It is a joke. The new outlook lets you launch a spreadsheet in Outlook. Why? I don't need that. I need an email tool that works. I used gmail for business for years and I was much more productive.

    Franc,

Do you work in an office setting, i.e., law office like me? We use Outlook for all of our calendar deadlines and appointments, as well as email of course. It is an INTEGRAL part of everything we do. I notice you didn't address the Adobe plug-in. I suggest you guys work on getting that issue fixed (if you were part of this redesign) because many people in my industry rely on this plug-in to seamlessly convert our emails into PDFs, among other things. And while I respect your opinion about the new Outlook, to me and many others, it is NOT well designed and implemented. What Microsoft does not seem to understand is those of us who use these programs daily, minute by minute, do not appreciate and do not want a complete overhaul to something that was working just fine.

I have tried every color scheme offered in the new version and NONE of them give me what I want and prefer, which is a gray color (shown in pic 1 below)....not black and not colorful. Gray is the easiest on my eyes and provides the best contrast for unopened emails and other things (in my opinion). Example below.

Also, the search function in the calendar is horrendous and practically useless. I use this feature daily to check entries on particular case files with the ability to see multiple entries plus how they are color categorized. In the new version, instead of just listing my entries in chronological order (shown in pic 2 below), it is grouping them by date (shown in pic 3). I never wanted that nor do I need it. I want to see them all in a list in chronological order regardless of date.

The new version just doesn't work for us, and I hope these issues are addressed before we are forced to switch.
