How to make SharePoint "Following" list show correct Site Title/Name instead of "Home"?

Question

As far as I can tell, the Sites that I have set up have the same types of Properties set as other existing Sites, but when I "Follow" them they show up in the "Following" list on my SharePoint main page as "Home" instead of as their actual title. However, they show up under "Recent" with the correct title!

Also, if I un-Follow the Site and then re-Follow it, it will show up (temporarily) in the Following list with the correct name. If I refresh the page, though, then it reverts to "Home". Frustrating!

The Site Name / Title shows up correctly when navigating into the Site, and the only other place I can see to change this is the "Title" Property of the Home.aspx Site Page, which is correctly set (to the title I want rather than "Home").

What am I missing?

This is a symptom of a basic flaw in the way SP retrieves site information, which has been reported multiple times and affects many different aspects of SPO. So far, Msft hasn't fixed it or even recognized it's a bug.

I am having the same issue as described in the original question on this post. Do you know how to resolve it so that the site name appears in the Following list instead of "Home"?

Glad to know the issue is resolved after you signed out completely and signed back in. There might be a temporary glitch which may have resulted this issue.

Update: these two sites now appear correctly in the "Following" list as the Home Page Title.

I did keep messing with a few settings here and there, but honestly do not know what might have caused the change. I think the most likely thing is that I completely signed out (due to some other change requiring it, which I don't recall what it was) and signed back in.

The other change that happened approximately concurrently was that I deleted the Site Description (but only for one of the two Sites) and replaced it with the Site Name. I then replaced it with an actual description again, though, but don't know if this caused the Following list to grab different info... 

In reply to your questions:

1. Yes, it was happening only with these two Sites. When I un-follow other sites, they do come back with the expected Name, or nearly the expected name. It seems that when I un-follow a Site and then re-Follow it, it pops into the Following list with the Site name (rather than with the Home Page Title)… and then when I refresh my browser window, they show the Home Page Title again.
2. Generally I use Edge, but I also tried with Internet Explorer and had the same experience. When I signed out completely (per above), it appeared to resolve the issue in both browsers... strange.
3. These are not Classic Sites, so I guess they are Office 365 Groups. I created them by using the "Create site" button on our SharePoint home page, then choosing "Team site" in the "Create a site" pop-up. I've also created Sites in the past by starting in Outlook and creating a Group. I presume that kind of Group is the same as the Team site (as opposed to a Microsoft Team which is a different thing).

When I first Follow a Site, the Site pops into the Following list using the name from the Site Title (which in this case would be "FTPP"). Once I refresh my browser, though, it uses the Home.aspx Site Page Title ("FTPP - Home" in this case). Before this fixed itself (or got fixed due to my complete sign-out), though, it was just showing "Home" -- I presume because that was the original "Title" for this Home.aspx Site Page.

To troubleshoot the issue, please confirm the following information:

1. Is it happening with two sites only? Please try following another site and check if it shows the original name under Following list.
2. Which browser are you using? Try using a different browser, then unfollow and re-follow the affected site, check if original name appears after refreshing the page.
3. Are these Office 365 group sites or classic sites?
4. You mentioned “*the only other place I can see to change this is the "Title" Property of the Home.aspx Site Page, which is correctly set”.*Could you please provide the screenshot of this?
