Your file wasn't saved because we cannot merge your changes with changes made by someone else using an older version of Excel

Hello,

We are using Sharepoint Server and we've made a custom VSTO Excel Addin that works on Excel files on Sharepoint.

When we run some custom utilities from the VSTO on Excel files saved locally on the computer, everything works. However, when running on the Sharepoint server, we have the following error message:

Your file {file-name} wasn't saved because we cannot merge your changes with changes made by someone else using an older version of Excel.

We don't really know how to deal with this/solve this. Can we please get some more context on when/how this occurs? Like what triggers this error message?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks

This Problem is when we use Sharepoint Server to save our new excel. Any idea or workaround on this?
