    Hi Frank,

    Welcome to Microsoft Windows Forums!

I would like to gather more information regarding the issue.

Ø  Are you getting this error while downloading or installing?

Ø  Which application are you trying to download?

In the meantime you try these method.

Try to place your computer in clean boot mode and check if the issue persists. To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. This article describes how to troubleshoot problems in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 by performing a clean boot.

Steps to put your computer in clean boot:

    1. Click Start
    2. Type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

    1. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
    2. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
    3. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
    4. Click OK.
    5. When you are prompted, click Restart.
    6. After the computer starts, check if the issue persists.

NOTE: PLACE YOUR COMPUTER BACK TO NORMAL STARTUP AFTER YOU TRY THE ABOVE STEPS.

Click Start, in the start search box type msconfig and press enter.

Choose Normal Startup and press Apply and OK

    The solution is here: http://assortedtopics.blogspot.com/2010/06/fix-for-windows-error-1500-another.html

Excellent post.  Windows Installer has failed for w/e reason and then sits dazed and confused thinking the previous update hasn't finished.  I've had the same problem myself.

What kills me about this forum is the useless "lead me down the garden path" responses from these MS support people like Mr. Bindu above.  "Here go waste your whole afternoon and try all these pointless things", when they know full well the problem is a failed windows update and the installer is glitched.

    Bindu,

I've tried the methods you suggested above and was unable to fix the error 1500.  I'm running Windows 7 Pro x64.  If you need more information on the OS let me know and I will try to find it.

    What I did find (trial and error method);

If I go into the "Services" screen and change the Windows Installer Startup Type from Manual to Automatic, I was able to complete installation of the programs I had been attempting to install when the Error 1500 started popping up.

Hopefully this will help anyone else having the same problem.

I was installing Adobe PDF when the error happened and I tried other programs and received the same error message.

I should also note that I did use Windows Installer Clean up utility to completely remove the Adobe installations as part of my trial and error path.  This was prior to changing the startup type from manual to automatic.

    thank you,

    Johnny
