Hi everybody,

Does anyone know of an alternative font for Cambria Math that looks similar to Times New Roman?

Thanks

    Suzzane,

Thanks for the reply. Equation Tools has the ability to change the default font by this address:

    "Equation Tools/Tools/Equation Options"

To change the default font you need to have math fonts. I could find some, but I need a font with the same characters that Time New Roman has. Here I send a screen of Equation Options that shows some fonts may be used for Equation.

Moderator Note: Latin Modern Math looks much like Times New Roman. Noto Sans Math apparently is also an available Math font.

Thanks Jay. I tried XITS Math and unfortunately there some fundamental mismatch between this font and Times New Roman. For example, since I need to have Persian language in my text and though my numeral sets as "Context", all numbers display in Persian. In the following a comparison of all math fonts containing Times New Roman + Symbol that should be used with MathType and the other math fonts that can be used with Office Equation is shown.

The article at https://mrchasemath.com/2013/01/05/math-fonts-in-microsoft-office/ has screen shots of several math fonts. The XITS font shown there is compatible with Times New Roman. The link in the screen shot isn't active, but you can find the font files on GitHub at https://github.com/alif-type/xits. After downloading XITSMath_Regular.otf and XITSMath_Bold.otf, right-click each file and choose Install. Then the font will appear in the Equation Options dialog:

Here's a comparison of the same equation in Cambria Math and XITS Math:

I believe it is not possible to use a different font with Microsoft Office Equation.

Well, then those are the options available. Those have been added since Word 2013, the most recent version I have installed (it has the same dropdown, but it shows only Cambria Math).
