Refund process for Microsoft 365 Family subscription

Question

Dear Microsoft Team,

I was charged for recurring subscription on 2nd July 2020 for Microsoft 365 Family, and this was by accident as I do not mean to continue the subscription for the period from July 2020 - June 2021. I have cancelled the subscription yesterday, 5th July 2020. 

My questions are as follows:-

1. What do I do to request for a refund?
2. Will the refund be in full amount?
3. Do I have to contact my bank as it is a credit card transaction?

It seems like MS has changed the rules. "Officially" they say we can cancel the subscription and get a refund, but the system displays the message you see.

This means you will unfortunately have to talk to MS support to get it cancelled and get the refund.

Good luck, you will need it trying to talk to Support these days ...

When renting or renewing 365, you should turn OFF the autorenew feature. MS really wants you to turn on the autorenew, so they often have an offer of a “free” additional month if you turn it on when you subscribe or renew.  So you turn it on to get the offer, then after you have the time applied to your subscription you turn off the auto renew. With a little luck, next year they will make the offer again.

Single transaction only

Credit Card disputes are on a ‘per transaction’ basis. You can’t dispute part of a credit card payment.

So, it’s important to buy the software as a separate transaction, not bundled up with other items.  If there’s a problem, you can open a credit card dispute for that purchase only.

Go to account.microsoft.com/services and enter your login credentials.

In the Services and Subscriptions section, locate your subscription.

Click on Manage.

Select Cancel.

In the popup box, select Confirm Cancellation.

our entitlement to a refund depends on where you are in your billing cycle. According to Microsoft, you can request a refund if either of the two conditions is met:

You bought an annual subscription to Office 365 within the last 30 days.

You have a monthly subscription and cancel within 30 days of your last renewal.

Should you decide to claim a refund, all your Office apps will immediately go into a reduced functionality mode. You can still use the apps to read and print documents, but you will not be able to edit documents. You will also lose additional Office 365 benefits such as OneDrive storage space and Skype minutes.
