I am using Excel V 16.37 on a Mac and I get the following message when I try to open certain files...Not all files.

I have been using Microsoft 365 to regularly update my programs and have been using them on my Mac for years without this kind of issue.

Excel cannot open the file 'Balance Sheet XXX.xlsx' because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.

    Hi RossFraser1

Have you tried to open the files that fail in another version of Excel/on another computer and, if so, do they open then?  If not, is it possible to share one of the files here so we can take a look?

    Best,

    Tim

I have 2 Macs on my desk that both share the Microsoft 365. My laptop will open the files but my new Mac mini is the one I am having difficulty with. It may be a Mac issue as I just tried to open a PDF file and got a similar message from a different (non Microsoft) program I use regularly.
