Hi!

I have several slides with videos on each slide and want to play them automatically as soon as I turn on a slide. However when I change playback settings from "When clicked on" to "Automatic" and try to safe or open another slide, the settings goes back to "When clicked on".

Give me an advice please.

Open the Animation Pane (Animation Tab) and make sure that all of the videos are set to "WITH PREVIOUS"

They will probably be set to AFTER PREVIOUS which is not what you need.

    Hi Timur,

Sorry to hear that. Per your description, may I confirm the issue is like the below scenario?

    1. Previously, the playback settings of videos in the presentation are set as "When clicked on".
    2. Today, you change the playback settings from "When clicked on" to "Automatic". For example, you changed the playback setting of the video in slide 1 to "Automatic".
    3. However, the playback setting goes back to "When clicked on" after saving or open another slide. For example, you press Ctrl + S to save or switch to slide 2, go back to check the playback setting of the video in slide 1, you find it reverts to "When clicked on".

If so, you may try the below suggestions and check the results.

    1. Create a new presentation, insert videos or Screen Recordings to the newly created slides, set the playback settings to "When clicked on" save and close the presentation. Open the newly created presentations and repeat the steps above, check whether the issue persists.

1.1 If the issue doesn't occur to newly created presentations, there may have some specific settings or problems in the affected presentation, the most efficient way to get rid of this issue may be recreating the affected presentation. If there is too much work or it's unacceptable to recreate it and you still cannot find the reason, would you mind sharing the affected presentation to me via the Private Message (PM)? I've sent you a PM to collect the presentation, you can click here to see the PM.

1.2 If the issue even persists to newly created presentations, you may continue to try the below suggestions:

    1. Update PowerPoint to the latest version to get the latest feature updates and security updates.

*The latest version of the Monthly Channel should beVersion 2002 (Build 12527.20242), and for Semi-Annual Channel / Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted), the most up to date version is Version 1908 (Build 11929.20606).

**In PowerPoint, click File -> Account, on the Product information panel, you can find the detailed version and update channel of PowerPoint on the About PowerPoint panel.

    1. If you are already using the latest version of PowerPoint, you may try to Perform Online Repair to check the result.

If all the suggestions don’t work, could you share a screenshot to let me know the detailed version and update channel of Office so that I can do further tests?

*You can click the Insert image button to upload pictures when you reply.

We appreciate your feedback and understanding.

    Best Regards,

    Hugo

    Dear Hugo!

    Thank you for your reply!

After I posted the question I got a message that the presentation has to be repaired, so you are absolutely right - I have to redo it.

Anyway following your advice I created another presentation with 1 slide.

I put several videos on it with Automatic playback. Previous problem did not appear - settings for Automatic playback are there! Good!

However I want to clarify one detail.

When I show the slide (F5) only the first video will be played automatically (immediately), but others will be played only when I click on the slide (not to a specific video, just somewhere on the slide). All videos have the same settings - Automatic playback.

    Can you suggest something please?

    In contact.

    Timur

    Dear Timur,

Glad to know I’m right but feel sorry to know the presentation has to be repaired :(. If the presentation is very important for you and it’s corrupt, I think you may try below methods to at least restore the inserted images and videos. (*Make a copy of the PowerPoint presentation to do the test.)

Step1: Rename the problematic PowerPoint presentation, change file name extension from .pptx/.ppt to .zip.

*You may need to show extensions in Windows 10 via open File Explorer -> View -> select the File name extensions option.

Step2: Open the .zip file and select ppt -> media, now you find images and videos in the media folder.

Step3: De-press the .zip file to local disk, check whether these images and videos can be reused.

    Back to the topic:

Per my testing, I would like to share some test results as below:

    1. If videos in a presentation are grouped, the playback setting cannot be changed. It will revert to the default “When Clicked On” even you have manually set it to the “Automatically”. It seems like the problem you are experiencing.

Reference: Group or ungroup shapes, pictures, or other objects

    1. If you haven’t tried to group these videos and can confirm the issue disappeared, let’s move forward and focus on the new details mentioned in the last reply. May I confirm you are using the latest Version 1908 (Build 11929.20606) of PowerPoint with the Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted) update channel?

*As mentioned in the last reply, In PowerPoint, click File -> Account, on the Product information panel, you can find the detailed version and update channel of PowerPoint on the About PowerPoint panel.

In the specific PowerPoint client, I occasionally reproduced the mentioned issue, but the issue disappeared soon after I tried to insert videos by the built-in Screen Recording feature.

Step1: I tried to drag three local videos to a new PowerPoint presentation one by one, and set the playback settings to “Automatically”, save the changes and press F5, the first video is played automatically (immediately), but others will be played only when I click on the slide, even all videos have the same playback settings (Automatically).

Step2: In another new PowerPoint presentation, I record three pieces of videos and set playback settings to “Automatically”, save the changes and press F5, they are played continuously.

Then I saved and closed all presentations and test this issue in another PowerPoint client, I found the issue disappeared in the specific PowerPoint client when I came back, which means videos can be played continuously. After that, I cannot reproduce the issue.

Have a try and tell me the test results. :)

*If the recorded videos function well on your side but the issue persists in the first problematic presentation, you may try to reset the playback settings in the first problematic presentation and check the results.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Best Regards,

    Hugo

    Dear Hugo!

    I use Version 2001 Build 1243.20184.

    I did not group videos.

Also made screen recordings with Automatic playback but still they played in Sequence or it is necessary to click somewhere on a slide. But after the clicking all videos start playing in the same time.

it looks like there is no other way, it is necessary to click once.

If you get an idea, please let me know, at the moment I will ask someone to help me with the presentation - to do clicking :)

    Thank you.

    Timur
