Type 1 font handling messed up by December 11, 2012 update KB2753842

Programs like Quark Xpress and Coreldraw on Windows 7 and XP have their Type 1 font handling broken by this patch. Characters larger than 15 pt. become invisible. Uninstalling the patch removes the problem. We have 330 machines with this problem. Is Microsoft getting ready to release a fix for this?

    Hello all,

Please be informed, that MS12-078 now has been updated – you can read more about the update here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms12-078

Why was this bulletin rereleased on December 20, 2012? ****Microsoft rereleased this bulletin to address a known issue in the KB2753842 update related to OpenType Fonts (OTF) not properly rendering in applications after the original update was applied. Customers who have successfully installed the original KB2753842 update are protected from the vulnerability described in CVE-2012-2556. However, customers need to install the rereleased KB2753842 update to resolve the issue with improper OpenType font rendering and to keep the affected binaries up to date.

Seems to be some sort of conflict with CorelDraw X5 with the latest Security Update

    http://coreldraw.com/forums/t/37077.aspx

Many fonts no longer work within the Program, however they do work normally with other software

This update seems to be the problem.

    Hi,

We are seeing the same issue with Quark Xpress and Quark CopyDesk both v.7 and v.8. This is a serious issue, as we have about 2000 users that might be affected by this (both on local machines and Terminal Servers).

    Regards,

    Kent Samuelsen

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community. This update would require an update from the program developers to cope with the changes made, however you can hide the update.

Follow these steps to hide Windows update:

    a.       Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.

    b.      Do one of the following:

    ·         Click the link that tells you important updates are available if you have important updates to hide.

    ·         Click the link that tells you optional updates are available if you have optional updates to hide.

    c.       Select any update that you want to hide, right-click it, and then click Hide update. Do this for each update you want to hide.

    d.      Click OK.

Hope this information helps. If you need further assistance with Windows, please reply we will be happy to help you.

Thank you. We have already flagged the update as unapproved in WSUS and begun to uninstall it (manually!) from the most critical machines. We, of course, hope for and expect Microsoft to issue a revision to that update that doesn't have the problem.

In the meantime, is there a way to uninstall it with an AD GPO so we don't have to touch every machine in our company?
