Files from browser not opening on desktop app

I used to be able to open files (word/ppt/excel) from my onedrive on web browser to the desktop app but a few days ago it doesn't open on the desktop app anymore. When I click open on desktop app, it shows the app starting but after a few minutes the file doesn't open at all.

I've tried opening the app first and then clicking open on desktop app and it will show the app starting even if I have the app open but the file doesn't open at all, not on the current app window open nor in a new window.
I've also tried opening the desktop app and then try accessing the file directly from the desktop app but it just crashes and exits the app altogether.

Take note, I've tried this on different files, word, ppt and excel and all have the same problem.

I've already restarted my laptop several times, updated Microsoft, uninstalled and then reinstalled office three times, did the online fix and then the quick fix, signed out of my account on the desktop app and signed back in but still nothing.

Please help! I do a lot of work using the Developer portion of the ribbon and that's not available on the web app.

Moving the thread is a bit of a furphy as most of us have the filter set to Show All and really does NOT make any difference what version of Office you are using if it is a desktop version.

In the desktop application, try going to File>Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings>Protected View and uncheck the box for "Enable Protected View for files originating from the internet".

    Hi,

May I know if you need further help? If so, please check if the same issue will happen in a new user profile so that we could narrow down the issue for a further step. For the reference: Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10 (microsoft.com).

    Best Regards,

    Mia

    Hello!

Yes, I still need assistance and I was waiting for someone to respond to my reply.

So I need to try making a new user in my laptop and check if I still encounter the same problem with accessing online files on my desktop?

Download the file to the local drive and then after accessing the properties dialog and checking the Unblock box, use File>Open in Word to open the file.
