MS word renaming files automatically with some numbers

Hello everyone,

I often encounter the issue of MS word renaming files automatically with some numbers. In order not to lose my files, I have to rename them before shutting down my PC. Please how do I cancel this feature? Any idea?

    Thanks all for your suggestions! I have later found a solution by simply uninstalling OneDrive app from my PC.

    Sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused on your side.

    May I have some screenshots for the details about the automatically added numbers on the file name? There have many situations for various behaviors. Also, please share us back with the following details.

    1.If the issue happens on all Word documents? Create a new one and test. Test if you don't rename it and save it directly, what will happen when you try to open it in Word app to edit again.

    2.If it happens only on Word or even other Office apps like Excel or PowerPoint?

    3.If the issue files are saved in OneDrive or local hard drive? Test with both and see if there have any differences?

    4.Please share the screenshot same as the following one in Word>File>Account for a better troubleshooting.

     

    Let me know the updates and post back with more details whenever you are in convenience.

    Thank you for your response. I really appreciate that.

    I have tried not renaming the files several times. But what I have noticed is that, whenever I do so, I lose the file. And that is why I always try to rename and save it in an identified location on my PC. I have not noticed whether the problem happens to other Office apps because I often use MS word only.

    My files are automatically saved on OneDrive.

    Below are screenshots of the file before and after the auto renaming.

    Do you see this only for documents saved to OneDrive?

    Also, which specific version of Office is this? Microsoft 365 Family? Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise? Or something else?

    Not only documents saved on OneDrive, although I activated auto back-up to my OneDrive. I use Microsoft 365.
