[Moderator's note:

This is missing from Word Online as of Monday (4/19). It is back as of Thursday (4/22).

Microsoft knows about it; it is not intentional. They are working to fix it.

Until this is restored, you might try playing a recording to your microphone using Dictate.

Hi,

The "Dictate > Transcribe" option is suddenly missing from Word Online. I used it up until two days ago, and suddenly it's gone. I have only used 100 minutes of it, so that can't be the problem. I tried both my school account and my work account, and neither of them have the option anymore.

I have tried both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, but the option is still gone. Is there any way to get it back? Was it silently removed?

Sincerely,

CR

    Hi CR,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused, I understand the issue has affected your daily work.

When I test from my side in Word for web, I can reproduce that the Transcribe option disappears from the ribbon in Edge(version 90.0.818.42) and Chrome browser(version 90.0.4430.72).

I have ensured that the editing language is set to en-US and "Enable optional connected experiences" is enabled via File>About>Privacy Settings in Word for the web. When I try to search Transcribe option, it shows grayed out.

    Update:

The issue has been fixed. Transcribe feature is working now.

I would like to make a summary for the issue below so that other community members can easily find the information:

Thank you all for your patience.

    Hi there,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to report this issue to Microsoft and we apologize for the inconvenience it caused. Thanks to this report and several customers who sent in-app feedback, the product team was alerted to the problem and the feature is now restored.

Secondly, although the feature is back on, if you still do not see Transcribe in Word for the Web, please refresh your browser via a keyboard shortcut (SHIFT + F5, or CMD + R on Mac).

I don't see anything about this problem on the Service health tab in the 365 portal?

    "Microsoft 365 Apps

    Healthy"

    Does not seem correct..

We are also seeing this issue on probably all of our users.
