Modify existing O365 Installation with updated Configuration.xml file

Hello,

I installed O365 by using a Configuration.xml file created with the Office Customization Tool (https://config.office.com/deploymentsettings).

After the Installation I realized that I forgot some settings and wanted to change others, so I uploaded my Configuration.xml file, modified it and downloaded it again.

I tried executing the setup.exe /configure Configuration.xml again and the device worked through the installation process, however the changed settings were not applied.

Is it even possible to apply changes to an existing O365 installation by using the Configuration.xml file or do I have to hunt down the respective keys in the registry? Of course I could always uninstall O365 and reinstall with the new config file but I feel there's got  to be a better way.

Best wishes,

Michael

    Hi MichaelDirnberger,

I go through the post carefully. May I know exactly which settings you would like to change with the ODT tool? if you would like to change update channel for Office 365, please make sure the scheduled task "Office Automatic Update 2.0" is enabled on the client devices. You may find the task from Task scheduler. For more information: Change the update channel with the Office Deployment Tool (ODT)

If you want to apply application preferences to an existing installation of Office, you may use customize mode. As described in the article:Apply application preferences to an existing installation of Microsoft 365 Apps

You may also manage Office settings with group policy, You may download the template files for this from the site: Administrative Template files (ADMX/ADML) and Office Customization Tool for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, Office 2019, and Office 2016.

    Regards,

    Clark

Perfect, thank you. The "setup.exe /customize" is exactly what I was looking for. I'll also try your hint for changing update channels.

Thanks again you really helped me out.

    BR,

    Michael
