Flash Drive labeled as "No Media"

At one point, my 128gb flash drive just suddenly didn't appear and wouldn't work. I recently tried to fix it again, but I couldn't do it. The flash drive is recognized by disk management, but isn't showing up in the file explorer. Also, in the disk management and in diskpart, the flash drive has the status "No Media". I assume that's why I can't see the flash drive in the file explorer. And the flash drive does have a drive letter. Is there any way that I can fix the flash drive assuming it's not a hardware problem? I've tried many methods, but none of them worked.

    Hi Nelson

If you get a 'No Media', 'Please Insert Disk' or 'Do you want to format' error on a flash drive, that drive has failed, I am sorry!

You will find many 'fixes' all over the Internet, sadly, none of those will work . .

Flash drives are very volatile and only really suitable for moving files form one PC to another, they are not meant as long term storage and you should always have a second copy of files stored on a flash drive

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, it is just a lot of websites provide 'fixes' and they are a waste of your time . . .

Well, that's unfortunate. It's not that big of a deal though. I didn't really have a lot of important things on the drive anyway. Thanks for the response!

Hi Nelson. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 10 year Windows MVP here to help you.

To know for sure run diagnostics on the flash stick:

If it passes try formatting the flash stick as shown here:

    https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/format-usb-drive/

Then run a Disk Check: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/check-hard-dri...

That will tell you for sure.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

I ran the diagnostics on 2 of the programs on that website, and one of them said "Error: A device that does not exist was specified." And the other couldn't even recognize it.

    Hi Nelson,

I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 2-Year Windows Insider MVP here to help.

The symptoms you tell are a common indication of the drive failure. Did you try it on a different computer preferably with a different OS?

If so, what were the results?
