ARM Based SAP Analysis

Hello,

I'm running Windows 11 on a M1 MacBook Pro through Parallel with Office 365. All Office applications run without issues along with other SAP front-end applications within BO/BI.

However, when running a query through Analysis, the run time is extremely slow and when the crosstab is created, the cells are empty and nothing can be moved in the design panel.

I've never run Analysis on a native version of Windows 11 but I have on 365 with Windows 10 and had no error. Additionally, there doesn't appear to be a longstanding issue related to the Windows 11 when searching.

I'm wondering if anyone else has such an issue with running it through any other ARM applications outside of Parallel or if any solutions within Parallel.

so it seems to be an issue directly with the ARM based version of excel and the application itself which I cannot understand.

    Yes, that is most likely.

    .

Windows, and Office running on ARM is still in development. So it is not surprising (to me) when it doesn't work on an obscure feature. Or even a commonly used one.

    .

Submit a Feedback to MS describing the problem.

    Feedback Hub

The “Answers” forum / community is “staffed” mostly by users like yourself, unpaid volunteers. This forum is intended more for “How to do something in application A” type questions. We sometimes can provide work-arounds for problems, but we can’t do anything about underlying problem. If the forum can’t solve your question you need to talk directly to MS, you need to submit a “Feedback” to MS.
    .

For a couple of years now MS has had a "feedback" process that allows users submit bug reports / problems, suggestions and new feature requests directly to MS developers and managers. You can submit feedbacks from within many MS apps, or you can use the Win10 “Feedback Hub” app. This article describes the different ways you can submit Feedback to MS:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/microsoft-feedback-process/6f850368-8c86-481d-a207-d95b265c4be4
    .

There is also a new web based “Feedback Portal” in development. It is still labelled “Preview”. It provides functionality similar to the feedback hub. Access to feedbacks submitted in 34 categories.
    https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/

    .

As users we are unpaid quality control testers, we identify bugs, they pick which feedbacks they will work on, and when they will release them, for testing by Insiders and to general public.
    .

But don't "expect" anything like feedback about your feedback back from MS.
    .

MS will make fixes and changes on their own schedule.
    .

They will not provide much, if any, advance notice of what they are working on and/or when it will be released.
    .

Hint : get a “share” link to your feedback (may take a couple of minutes to process the initial submission of the feedback) and post the link back to this question. That way if someone finds this question they will be able to link directly to your feedback so they can vote for it and add their comments. The more feedback on a subject, the more likely it is to be acted on.

    i.e.

"Feedback" suggesting that they create a "Support / Support" category in the feedback app to collect complaints about poor service in MS Support: https://aka.ms/AAdyeq0

    Hi Elise,

    Thanks for the reply.

In theory this makes sense, but I like Fabrice below, also have a MacBook Pro from 2018 with bootcamp on it along with a native Windows PC. The amount of ram this application runs is no more than running it regularly in excel.

In theory, it's no different than running Power BI or Power Pivot directly in excel and getting the data pulled directly from a database, which both run perfectly fine.

On top of that, I have the ability to pull the data from a web-based application that is far more complex and has no issue and all of the other SAP Business Object applications run perfectly fine, so it seems to be an issue directly with the ARM based version of excel and the application itself which I cannot understand.

    kr,

    Jake

Check with SAP support and see what they say about your specific configuration.

    .

Maybe you could try running Windows in Bootcamp ("dual boot").

Sorry, a quick search says that you can't run BootCamp on that CPU (ARM).

Hi I have the same issue

But with a M1 max with 32GB ram and 16GB ram just for Windows 11.

This is a professional machine. And due to that, I m still use my old mac.

Please provide an update to not improve the speed but just allow to use it because this is not the case for the moment

Hi, I'm Elise, and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

With certain complex applications you may experience issues such as this, if they are not compiled for ARM. This is because Windows will be doing a x64 emulation to allow Windows 11 ARM to run the app, then on top of this you have Windows 11 running in a virtual machine.

You can imagine this adds a certain degree of overhead which can cause some lag. The amount of lag just depends on the application you are using.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

    Elise
