Word Image Resizing Problems from Corner Handles since recent update

Hi,

Since a recent update of Word, I can no longer quickly resize a Image / Picture within Word using the corner handles with the mouse in any of my older documents? Might be compatibility issue since update.

A lot of my current files are .DOC which are important to retain my years of formatting work for flyers etc.

The handles are GREY now.

If I have to Convert all be older format docs to New Format it with take hours of reformatting and work to fix. Please no.

I have to adjust size using dimensions boxes.

This is really frustrating. I have tried running more updates and searching Google with no luck so far.

If I make a brand new DOCX and add image it works.

This issue has been reported to Microsoft. It is being investigated.

It seems to be working here, too, now (Office 2021, version 2112 according to File > Account).

In have just noticed that the issue of me not being able to resize drawings pasted into Word 2019 has apparently been resolved in a recent update (a few days ago).

I can again resize by using the mouse clicking on the diagonal handles - excellent!

(For the past month or so, this could not be done & I had to use the "properties" and set the size via trial & error to get the correct % size).

My understanding is that this is an issue with documents in the legacy .doc format and .rtf documents and those in .docx format that are in compatibility mode.

Resizing is still available through dialog boxes and in controls on the Ribbon, just not with the mouse/touchpad/touchscreen.

Currently, there is a known issue with resizing shapes and text boxes using the mouse. Microsoft is aware of this issue and they are working on a fix.

The issue affects documents in compatibility mode (older file formats).

The workaround is to "upgrade" your document to the most recent file format.
