spell checker problems

my spell checker is correcting for the wrong language, it is translating to english, however, my mother language is Portuguese, I already changed the language to Portuguese in the settings, I tried to put the spell checker in Portuguese, it didn't work, remembering that I have windows 8

    The proofing language used in Word is character-level formatting. It is not a document or application setting (although those are important.

    A key is often to have your Windows language settings to be the same as the primary language you want to use in Word.

    If the Portuguese language pack is installed as one of Windows system language, please go to Review > Language group, Language button > Set Proofing language > Untick the box of "Detect language automatically".
