I am not using a server. I use the normal edition of Windows on my personal PC at home.
DFS not working
Hi guys,
I'm having troubles with DFS. Here's my scenario:
I have an old file server and four DCs. The newly added two DCs had all the files from the old file servers copied over into a DFSR system.
The DFS was set up months ago and believed it was working well because my network drives are mapped to the two new servers running DFS and didn't experience problems so just to make sure I first shut down the old file server before completely removing it but then I realized things aren't working well when I do that.
If I try to open a file from any app whatsoever (word, excel, etc.) it takes about half a minute for the file browser to show up - on any of the domain computers. When the old file server is running that problem is gone, however I need to get rid of the oldie. Also what happens is that files opened from a network location will sometimes just closed and reopen by themselves.
I wasn't the one setting it up so I'm not sure how it's done procedurally.
When I look into the active DFS server's manager file and storage services events I see warnings with ID 5014 - source DFSR, and separately these messages mention all of the DCs which I below mention as partner XYZ.
The DFS Replication service is stopping communication with partner XYZ for replication group Domain System Volume due to an error. The service will retry the connection periodically.
Additional Information:
Error: 9036 (Paused for backup or restore)
If you have any ideas or similar experiences I'd love to hear you out
Regards,
Luka

2021-08-20T05:26:59.573+00:00 The replication is actually fine SSengupta. No errors there but as I mentioned as soon as I turn off the old file server where the drives aren't mapped to anymore opening file browser windows within any program is painfully slow, once you get it opened no problem.
