Print Only Documents in a Shared Folder

I'm the owner of an English Academy and I want to allow teachers to print test papers (all word documents) from a shared folder, but I don't want them to be able to edit or download and save the files. I only want them to stay stored in the public folder. This is to prevent teachers from saving and using outside of the academy. Is it possible?

Once you give access to a document you have effectively lost all control over it.

    Hi JoshuaAkonom,

Thank you for posting in this community.

According to my research, if you are using OneDrive for work or school or SharePoint, you may try the steps in the following article:

Block downloads for view-only files in SharePoint and OneDrive (microsoft.com)

    1. Find the file you want to share in OneDrive or SharePoint, and select the circle in the upper corner.
    2. Select Shareat the top of the page.
    3. Select Anyone with the link can editto open Link settings.
    4. Uncheck Allow editing, and then turn on Block download.
    5. Add your message and send the invite.

Recipients will see a message indicating they can view, but not download the file.

However, according to my tests, it is not allowed to print either. Since there is not a option to print the document.  As you can see the below image:

As a workaround, you may suggest your users to print the web pages using their web browsers.

    Print in Microsoft Edge

Indeed, I understand the inconvenience caused to you. Given this situation,  it’s recommended to send feedback within Feedback · Community (microsoft.com).

Since it may be the quickest route to get your comments to the related programming developers’ears.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

    Best Regards,

    May

Kind of what I surmised. Thanks for the input.

Yeah, printing the web pages might now work out too well. Thanks for the rest of that information though, I wasn't aware of it.
