Sites Followed in SharePoint do not refresh in Save As Dialogue box

I have seen older posts regarding this issue back in 2019-2021, but nothing recent and yet the issue still exists.

I am trying to save files from Office Apps (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc) directly into Teams Folders. There are several workarounds, but there are issues with using the "Save As" dialogue box directly.

In the Save As dialogue, when you choose SharePoint Sites from the left panel, only the "Frequent" and "Following" Teams are listed.

I found that if I go to the Team in SharePoint, I can click the Star to "Follow". But this does not update the Following list in the Save As dialog. I have tried logging out/in, and restarting, and just waiting.

How can I get Office Apps to Refresh the Followed sites?

Is there a way to Browse the Teams Sites?

Ideally, you could just browse all of your Teams, and not have to rely on the Frequent or followed designation.

The two workarounds I know of are to either:

  1. Choose to "Sync" the folders from Teams, this will add a folder directly in Windows Explorer that One Drive will Sync with Teams/SharePoint
  2. In the Save As Dialog, AFTER you select any SharePoint Site from your frequent list, then you can also double-click on Sites to get a Browse dialog box. From here you can MANUALLY type the address of the team using: https://ptccloud.sharepoint.com/teams/YourTeamNameWithNoSpaces

How has this Navigation and SaveAs Functionality been broken for so many years?? Am I missing something new?

Thanks for any ideas!!

    Dear cderonne,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft community.

We understand your concern about the Following sites in Office desktop applications are not updated immediately.

We test in the latest version Office of Beta channel and behavior remains. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this behavior and we think contact Microsoft business support might be the best method for this part. The support team there with higher permission level may give you a proper solution on this behavior.

Meanwhile, as workaround, you may add a shortcut to OneDrive in SharePoint Library:

    1.Click the button.

2.You could find a folder like this in local OneDrive sync folder.

3.Create a file or edit the file in the folder.

4.The file will be added to SharePoint library directly.

Also, we will keep this thread open and see if other community members have any useful ideas on this behavior.

Thanks for your cooperation, have a good day.

    Sincerely,
