Powerpoint 2021 keeps selected text selected when retype on the selected text in Lao font.

When I select text and retype on it, the highlight removes immediately when I start retype in previous versions of Powerpoint or for other languages. But only for Lao language in Powerpoint 2021, the highlight doesn't remove when I start retype, which results that I can't insert a new word because it replaces every single previous typing. So I have to select, DELETE and then retype a new word to edit. It sounds similar to an Insert key problem on the keyboard but it's not. For other languages, it works well. And I cound't find any options to handle this in PP advanced options. Any leads?

    Hello Slowersloth,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community and enjoy the time you've spent sharing detailed information. I understand that the problem is that Powerpoint 2021 keeps the selected text selected when retyping it in Lao font. If my understanding is wrong, please correct me in the answer. I am pleased to offer you assistance on this issue.

We fully understand the inconvenience the issue has caused and that the current situation can be frustrating.

According to your description, we also need to confirm the information for further troubleshooting, in order to better help you solve the problem.

Are you having this problem only in the PowerPoint application? Have you encountered the same situation in other office applications such as Word?

Does this happen to all PPTs when you are editing in PowerPoint 2021? Or exists in some specific PPT document?

Have you checked your office for updates? If so, please update first.

Secondly, it is recommended that you open PowerPoint in safe mode to see if the situation persists, as it may be some add-in that is causing the problem. You can click here to learn how to enter Safe Mode.

If this situation still exists in safe mode, it is recommended that you perform an office repair, which may solve your problem. You can click here to learn how to repair office applications.

We have to go through a series of steps to find the real cause of the problem. If the above steps do not solve your problem, please let me know and I will continue to help you with the problem.

    Sincere greetings

    Hello Mavis,

Thank you for the reply. But unfortunately your suggestions didn't work.

    1. I'm having this problem only in the PowerPoint. Word or Excel works well normally.
    2. This happens to all PPTs when I'm editing in PowerPoint 2021 even in a new blank PPT.
    3. My office is up to date as seen below.

    1. Safe Mode didn't work. New blank PPT in Safe Mode has also failed.
    2. After Repair Office suite, it's the same. Problem persists.

    Thanks for your support.

    Hello Slowersloth,

Thank you for your reply again, I'm sorry that the previous solution did not solve your problem.

For your current situation, we also need to know the following information:

Is the Lao font you speak of Lao UI or another font? Where did you get this font from? Or does it come with PowerPoint?

Has this problem always existed when using PowerPoint2021, or was it normal when using PowerPoint2021 before?

If your other fonts are normal, and you have repaired the office application, it seems that it may be related to the font itself, we still need to know more detailed information to better help you solve the problem.

Looking forward to your reply again, thank you for your patience and cooperation.

    Sincere greetings

    Hello Mavis,

    Thank you for the reply.

The Lao font I mentioned is not only one. I use various Lao fonts which used to work without any problem in previous versions of Windows 10 + Powerpoint 2016. Recently I set up Windows 11 and Office 2021 on a new computer and this problem started. I use various languages at the same time but this problem exists only in Lao and Thai language(I've just tested with Thai now and found that it has the same problem), Korean, English are okay. Note that all the Lao and Thai fonts I uses worked well with previous version of Windows and Office progrmas and even with Word, Excel 2021, it seems to me that this is a problem that arises when PowerPoint 2021 deal with certain languages such as Lao or Thai, not a problem of individual font.

    Thanks for your support.
