Notes button missing, and comments adding notes instead of comments

It seems that Add Notes option is missing from my version of Excel which I have access to via Microsoft Office. In addition it appears that my Add Comment button adds a note instead. So far I have tried repairing my installation of Office using the online repair tool. Any assistance in this matter would be appreciated.

    Hi Ashtonsalisbury,

In Excel for Microsoft 365, there are two kinds of comments to choose from: comments and notes. From your post, I understand the add Notes button is missing from Excel and you have tried online repair.

There are two ways to create notes, you can click New Note on the right-click menu, or you can click Notes > New Note on the Review tab.

May I know whether New Notes option is missing from both the places i.e., right-click and Review tab as shown below?

Please try opening Excel in safe mode and check if same issue appears. To know how to run Office apps in safe mode, see Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC

Besides, may I know if you have customized Excel's right-click context menu (possibly using an add-in)? if so, please check this support article.

In case, you haven’t made nay changes in the Excel's right-click context menu and the issue persists, please provide us with the following information:

    1. Please provide the screenshot of Microsoft 365 Product Information. To get this screenshot, open Word or Excel on your system, click File>Account, capture the screenshot of all the information mentioned under Product Information.
    2. May I know if you see the same behavior in a new Excel workbook? Please create a new workbook to confirm.
    3. A screenshot of the right-click context menu and the Review tab.
    4. Since when are you getting this issue?

    Regards,

    Neha
