I am building an item->location database and I want to use QR codes to keep up with the item and what location they are in. I have built the tables with the items and locations but I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to get them connected with QR without going to a 3rd party program. I need this to work without internet as part of the locations are out of service.

need this to work without internet as part of the locations are out of service.

    scan them with a mobile

if you can scan with mobile, why not connect internet through mobile service with WIFI.

And qrcode are often used to connected internet for fetching info.

You could use a tablet that runs Windows and scan directly to Access. Or you could use any device that will scan and store the scans then upload to a PC. Or you could use a wand that has storage.

But none of that is specific to the barcode type used. I've worked with a few apps, that scan a barcode and a QR is too complex for this application.

This is pretty much the conclusion I have come to after weeks of research... We wanted to use QR codes so that we could just scan them with a mobile device like an iPad and not have to carry the external scanners.

I very much appreciate your advice on this project!

Why QR codes? QR codes are designed to hold a lot of data in a 2 dimensional format. But you nee software to generte the QR codes. While regular barcodes can be generated by using a barcode font. It would be easier to attach a barcode to an item, scan the barcode, then scam a location barcode to indicate the current location.
